Jiaogulan is a wild plant that has many health benefits. This plant has many names, including: Adaptogène, Dungkulcha, Ginseng du Sud, Gynostemma pentaphyllum, Adaptogen, Immortality Herb, Jiao Gu Lan, Penta Tea, Miracle Grass, Fairy Herb, Gynostemma, Herbe de l’Immortalité, Jiao Chu Lan, Amachazuru, Plante de l’Immortalité, Thé de l’Immortalité, Vitis pentaphylla, Southern Ginseng, Xianxao, Xian Cao, and Gynostemma pedatum.

What is Jiaogulan?

It is a native plant and has many health benefits, it is usually used to treat many diseases. Due to the many benefits of jiaogulan plant, it is sometimes referred to as the “Southern Ginseng” plant, because it is grown in Southern China and is used as ginseng in general.

Among the benefits is that it treats high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and is good for improving heart function. In fact, this plant also used as a super useful for immunity, stamina and endurance. Even Jiaogulan is also beneficial for hair health, and memory.

Don’t stop here, the plant called “Jiaogulan” also has other health benefits such as increasing appetite, chronic bronchitis, cough, persistent stomach pain, inflammation, stomach pain, ulcers, constipation, gallstones, stress, cancer, obesity, sleeplessness, diabetes and back pain.

There are also those who use the Jiaogulan plant as an anti-aging drug, a detoxifying agent and as a source of antioxidants.

How does Jiaogulan work?

Jiaogulan contains important substances whose benefits are lowering bad cholesterol levels in the body. That is why many people use it as a high blood pressure medication and as an LDL lowering agent.

Uses & Effectiveness

This herb or herb has potential benefits for lowering cholesterol levels. Regarding this, there are several factors so that this plant can lower cholesterol and increase levels of good cholesterol (HDL).

There is not enough evidence to rate its effectiveness for liver disease. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, at the beginning of the study by consuming Jiaogulan three times a day (for 4 months) showed no improvement in liver function. Likewise with body mass index, cholesterol, kidney, blood sugar in those with fatty liver disease (non-alcoholic).

Possible side effects

Consuming Jiaogulan in the short term is safe for health (for 4 months). Possible side effects do exist such as increased bowel movements and severe nausea.

Special Precautions & Warnings

Jiaogulan is not safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women. Jiaogulan plants contain substances that are not safe for them, it is said that these substances can cause birth defects in children.

So, this bad effect is also possible on breastfeeding babies, so you should not use this plant as well as pregnant women.

Jiaogulan side effects can also be auto-immune diseases, such as multiple sclerosis (MS), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), lupus (systemic lupus erythematosus, SLE), or other conditions: Jiaogulan sometimes reacts by making the immune system more active. Well, if you have problems with auto immunity, you should avoid using this plant.

Bleeding disorders, sometimes taking Jiaogulan is also not good for blood health, it can make blood clotting difficult.

Blood clotting disorders like this become an obstacle to surgery, it is feared to increase bleeding during surgery. If you are going to have surgery you should stop using Jiaogulan for two weeks before surgery.

Interactions

Jiaogulan may interact with drugs whose function is to increase immunity (Immunosuppressants). Talk to your doctor for more accurate information about drug interactions.

Jiaogulan has the property of slowing blood clotting, so if you take Jiaogulan with blood-reducing drugs it can cause your body to bruise. Among drugs that slow blood clotting or thin the blood are: aspirin, dalteparin (Fragmin), heparin, enoxaparin (Lovenox), indomethacin (Indocin), warfarin (Coumadin), and ticlopidine (Ticlid).
