How to Tell if Steak Is Bad

Here are some tips that you should know and try on a steak that is already suspicious.

1. Smelling for Trouble

How do you know if a raw steak is bad? Well, our number one tip is to check the aroma. This can also be a way for you to test your cooked steak. because even though the steak is rotten, it will still smell from the aroma.

Smell carefully and determine if the smell is strange, if your steak smells no longer like steak, it means your steak has a problem. Supposedly, the smell of your steak should be normal, if it is not good, then this smell is an indication that it is rotten and not worth eating anymore. So, smelling the aroma is one of knowing that the steak is rotten.

Stale or rotten steak will have an unpleasant odor. If you have difficulty with the smell of steak, try to compare it with the smell of steak that is still fresh or you just bought. Find the difference, if the aroma is the same, it means there is no problem with your steak. If the steak still smells good, it means you can still eat it. But if you find something strange and smells uncomfortable, then you should take the safe route, sign it and throw it away.

Consuming stale food can cause problems in your stomach, can even cause diarrhea and this is a sign of food poisoning. Damage to steak or stale can be caused by bacteria, stale food will be rejected every time your stomach and he will expel it.

2. Take a Look

In addition to smelling, there are also signs that can be seen from the steak if it is rotten. To find out the state of the steak, you have some visual signs that you should pay attention to and understand. If you are used to smelling it, and you see the condition of the steak like that, this can be a sign in the future, when you see a steak like that, you can decide if it is a rotten or stale steak.

Well, how to tell a steak is bad just by looking at it? You can look for a slimy material around the sides of the steak or underneath. If you find your steak slimy, this could be a sign that your steak is no longer good and this is because you stored it not at the right temperature. Steaks should always be stored in the refrigerator or freezer until you use them.

If your steak is not at the proper temperature (28-32) this can cause accelerated rot in the steak. Even when you’re getting ready to cook them, you shouldn’t leave the steak at room temperature for even a few minutes. If you want to cook or bake it, store it in the freezer first and take it when you are about to bake it.

A slimy substance in steak is a sign that your steak can no longer be used, this is a bad indication for your steak. In addition to slime, you can see a change in color, if the color has changed then you have to get rid of it from your kitchen.

This color change is usually from red to purple or slightly brownish. This is either not completely rotten but is in the process of spoiling or your steak has shown a long shelf life or is close to expiration.

But when you see a significant change in color and this is an indicator for your steak that it is rotten. So, the choice is you have to throw it away, don’t force yourself to eat rotten steak.

3. Check the Date

Furthermore, the way to know if the steak is rotten is to look at the expiration date. It’s very simple if you find any responsiveness or limits to its use. So, first check if it is still in its usable period, you can thaw it for cooking. However, if you find the use date has passed, you do not need to defrost it because this is an indication that your steak should be removed.

If you store steak in the freezer it will probably last longer but will eventually rot. Freezing it will only slow down the spoilage process, not prevent it from spoiling. Steaks will stay good in the freezer for 6 to 12 months. If you have stored it for 12 months in the freezer, it is no longer suitable for consumption. So, pay attention to the expiration date.

If you buy fresh steak, it is also important to know the expiration date, so you will put it in the freezer right away in the right time, and after a few days of putting it in the freezer, it’s no longer good for you even if you put it in the freezer. If you’re cooking steak, it’s best to keep it in the fridge for just 2 days after it’s cooked. Record how long it has been in the refrigerator, and check other indicators.

Closing Tips

There is one more tip that you should pay attention to to decide that your steak is still good to eat.

If you store tuna steak and want to know if your steak is still good or not, but remember that tuna is a different meat from beef or mutton, tuna evaporates quickly and is not very durable. Some after cooking the tuna steak, it will go bad even if you keep it in the refrigerator.

To get tuna meat to last longer, you should store it in an airtight container, store in the refrigerator or in the freezer until you use it.

Do not reheat the steak more than twice as this can expose your steak to bacteria. This can cause poisoning in those who eat it. Do not reheat food, including steak, many times.

That’s how to tell if a steak is bad, we’ve also included three tips and how to determine if your steak is bad or stale. If you have doubts about your steak that you have stored, and find a doubtful sign, don’t put yourself in a dangerous place, it’s better to throw away the steak and buy it fresh.
