How to Tell If a Peach is Ripe

So, to find out if your peaches are perfectly ripe, there are some simple ways that can be an indication and a clue that you can use them in various needs.

Peaches are like bananas or mangoes, they are known as climacteric fruits, fruits that can continue to ripen after being picked or harvested. This is important, when you buy it at the store you can adjust it to your needs. If you want to use it for the next few days, it means you can choose one that is not fully ripe because it will ripen by itself slowly.

Here are some signs to tell if the peach is ripe or not.

1. Pay attention to Color and Appearance

When you pick a peach that’s ripe and nice, the first thing you see may be the color. Usually the ripe ones are yellow to golden in color and have a few red spots on the surface of the skin. Well, this color gradation is a sign that the peach is ripe or not. The red part of the peach isn’t really a sign that it’s ripe but rather the part of the fruit that is often exposed to the sun and not a sign of ripeness.

Well, the best way to check the ripeness of a peach is to pay attention to the skin around the fruit stalk because this is the part that is protected from the sun. You can refer to the skin color around here.

If you find the color there is light yellow, or slightly greenish, this means the peach is not ripe.

If you are looking for ripe and juicy peaches, then choose a fruit with a golden yellow color and more pronounced this color around the fruit stalk.

Of course, you also don’t want fruit that is too ripe because it doesn’t taste good in the mouth. So, avoid peaches with black spots or fruit that is bruised or cracked. Also pay attention not to wrinkle the peaches, as this is a sign that the peaches have been refrigerated for too long or are very ripe.

2. Smell

The second thing to notice and indicate maturity is the smell. You can smell it or put your nose close to the peach.

Unripe peaches have no odor or the smell is very subtle. So, different from ripe fruit. If you’re really looking for a ripe peach, then skip the subtle-smelling fruit.

A perfectly ripe peach has a sweet floral scent that you can even detect without smelling it too closely. This is the kind of fruit you are looking for and want to take home, perfectly ripe peaches.

3. Touching

How to know ripe peaches can also be by pressing or touching it. Touching a peach will tell you how hard or soft the fruit is. If it is a bit soft this is also an indication that the peach is about to ripen.

So you should know that peaches are hard like a baseball, this is not good. If it is very firm, this means that the peach was harvested very unripe. Of course you don’t want that.

If you want peaches that are almost ripe (not perfectly ripe), you can choose peaches that are hard like a tennis ball. It’s still firm but soon goes to maturity.

Peaches will continue to ripen, so you can choose a hard one like a tennis ball, keep it on the table and it will continue to ripen.

The delicious and sweet peach is a fruit that is a little soft, try holding the peach and gently squeezing it with your hands. If you find peaches that are soft and can leave marks on your fingers, these are already very good to eat.

You definitely don’t want overripe peaches, do you! If it feels mushy, too soft, bruises easily even if you just lightly touch it, this means that the peach is past its prime. Pay attention to this, because this is not good for those of you who don’t want overripe fruit.

4. The Perfect Peach

So, how do you know when peaches are perfectly ripe? Perfect fruit should be golden yellow and no green at all around the fruit stalk.

In addition, this fruit will have a very sweet aroma and can leave a touch or pressure mark on the fruit but does not cause the fruit to break or break.

How to Store Peaches

Well, after we buy or get peaches, we must know how to store them properly so that the fruits we buy too much can be stored for us to eat a few days later.

Peaches will continue to ripen when stored, so it’s important to know how to store them properly. Storage can affect how many days it lasts and can be used.

Tips for storing peaches

If your peaches aren’t ripe yet, you can leave them at room temperature like on the dinner table, or near a window so they get some sunlight but not direct sunlight.

We recommend that when storing peaches, do not touch each other because it can cause ripening and bruising, so as much as possible avoid touching the fruit when stored.

If you really want to eat it and want it to ripen immediately, put it in a paper bag, then put a banana in a paper bag, you can also put a ripe apple in it. Well this way your peaches will ripen in a day or two.

If you want to slow down the ripening process, simply refrigerate the peaches. In cold conditions the fruit will prevent the oxidation reaction so that it can slow down ripening.

Peaches that are nearly ripe will only last a week in the refrigerator, so don’t leave them in the refrigerator for too long as they can rot. If it’s been more than 5 days in the refrigerator, then peaches can only be made into smoothies.
