For canning, you must use whole tomatoes that are still skinned. This skin is important because it protects the interior of the fruit and can keep it longer.

I like to freeze cherry tomatoes for a long shelf life. Freezing will stop the process of change and spoilage of tomatoes. You can easily do this, just put the tomatoes in the freezer and freeze them. Freezing like this will stop the enzymes from changing the tomato fruit so it can last a long time in its freshness.

I usually put it in a tray and let it freeze overnight. When morning or afternoon, the tomatoes are completely frozen and we can take them for canning. Cherry tomatoes are easy to freeze and don’t take much time. We love this way of keeping cherry tomatoes longer.

Then, put it in a glass jar and then put it in the freezer again for storage. Maybe you think we can’t keep glass jars in the freezer. That’s true, but you can still keep mason glass jars in the freezer and other canning supplies. This cherry tomato will store well in the freezer, as long as it is stored upright, it doesn’t crack and is great for freezer storage.

Cherry tomatoes can last for months in the freezer, stored in jars and in the freezer. Storing in a jar is only one option, because you can store it in plastic by draining all the air inside. Using plastic will save more space so you can store more plastic filled cherry tomatoes in the freezer.

Fresh or Dehydrated?

Do you have to dry the cherry tomatoes first before storing them in the freezer or store them fresh. Actually it depends on how you will use it. If you use it fresh and whole then the storage must be fresh. If using tomatoes for salads, of course they must be fresh, no one eats dried tomatoes in salads, then storage for this purpose must be done in a fresh state. Unlike the case if you use tomatoes for other purposes, sometimes you can store them in a dry state such as for use in soups.

If you must dry cherry tomatoes, you can air dry them in the sun, or by using a dehydrator. Dried tomatoes can be stored for a long time and can be used for various uses in the future. Just like you store fresh cherry tomatoes in the freezer, this will extend the shelf life and you don’t have to buy tomatoes all the time.

How to Store Cooked Tomatoes

Want to try another way of storing tomatoes? You can save the cherry tomatoes after you cook them. After cooking you just prepare the canning for storage. If you try this method, you must cook the tomatoes first, save the cooked tomatoes, must remove the core, because this core can affect the taste of the tomatoes later. So get the point out, but don’t throw it away because you can use it to cook soup and others.

Put your tomatoes in a safe bag and then put in the freezer, this can last up to 3 months in the freezer.
