What are the Common Causes of Constipation?

Constipation is a condition where a person finds it difficult to defecate. Sometimes someone goes to the toilet every two days, this is already a sign of constipation even though it’s not in the severe category.

But it is a signal that you are having problems with slowed peristalsis so that your intestines can’t move stool to be excreted.

The causes of constipation are very diverse, including taking certain drugs, lack of fluids in the body, lack of fiber, the presence of certain diseases and others.

If we pay attention to these causes, one way that we can easily take is to increase the intake of dietary fiber. This is an important thing that must be taken to prevent and overcome constipation.

Why do we need a reasonable amount of dietary fiber intake? Because this is the key to success in keeping digestion healthy and strong.

Dietary Fiber is Good for Constipation

Why? Dietary fiber is needed, the function of dietary fiber is to make stools soft and as a bulking action making it easier for the intestines to move it out. The food we eat contains two types of fiber.

There is insoluble fiber: This is a type of fiber that is insoluble in water and it performs a bulging action. There is also soluble fiber: This is the fiber that makes the stool absorb water so it doesn’t harden and is easier to pass from the stomach.

How Much Fiber should We Consume Each Day?

Our daily food intake should be rich in fiber or at least containing fiber. Fiber must be in the right proportion and should not be exceeded or lack thereof.

Lack of fiber causes constipation and excess fiber can cause stomach gas due to lack of bacteria in the intestines.

So, a reasonable and recommended daily fiber intake is 20-35 grams per day. If you want to know what the exact number is, there is no specific standard.

It’s just that you should consume about 20 grams of fiber every day to help you get rid of waste easily.

In addition, consuming fiber-rich foods has been associated with various health benefits such as preventing constipation, overcoming constipation, preventing cancer, and others.

Is Dietary Fiber Bad for You?

True, under certain conditions the dietary fiber that we consume can also cause health problems. This means excess fiber. So, consuming something should always be in moderate amounts and should not be excessive.

Western diet lacks fiber so the majority of them are constipated. Mentioned only 5% of the American population who consume foods with adequate fiber intake.

These are very few in number and we know that westerners are not aware of their health and the nutrients they consume every day, especially fiber.

Ok, what are the side effects of excess fiber? Excess fiber also has a bad effect on health. Under certain conditions, such as consuming vegetables and fruit, sometimes a person can experience excess fiber.

This can have an adverse effect on the lack of good bacteria in the gut. The result can cause gas or bloating. So, excess fiber also causes discomfort in the body.

Note: Consume food in reasonable amounts, whatever your diet is, then consume it in reasonable amounts so that we get comfort. Why eat a lot of food if after that we have to suffer!

So, for those who want to consume fiber-rich foods, you should do it slowly. Consumption of foods with fiber levels is not too much, then gradually you can add to foods rich in fiber so that your intestines tolerate high fiber.

Regular Exercise, Drinking Water and Juice Can Make You Defecate?

Someone who is constipated, not only fiber-rich foods are noticed. But pay attention to the water in the body too, doesn’t lack of fluids (water intake) can also cause constipation!

So, consume a reasonable amount of water, which is 8 glasses per day.

In addition to drinking water, you can try to exercise regularly. This will move your entire body including your intestines. You will benefit from your exercise. With diligent and regular exercise, digestive health will also be healthy.

If after drinking enough water, exercising and consuming fiber, and you are still experiencing constipation, then it is time for you to ask your doctor.

We know that the cause of constipation is not only focused on water, fiber and exercise. There are things that can cause constipation, even certain diseases and certain drugs can also cause a person to be constipated.

In addition, also consume fruits that are high in water content. Dehydration causes constipation, so prevent dehydration by eating watermelon, cucumbers, and including pomegranates.

Pomegranates are rich in water and fiber, but we recommend that you eat whole pomegranates instead of pomegranate juice.

Grains such as beans are also included in high-fiber foods that can make your nutrition varied.

One of the best options for constipation apart from pomegranate is cucumber. Besides being rich in fiber, cucumbers also contain water and are low in calories.

100 grams of cucumber contains only 12 cal, this is very good for weight loss in addition to maintaining intestinal health.
