History of al-Qust Hindi

The alQust plant which is now known as Costus is a plant with a height of about 2 meters and in general the custos hindi plant is found in the northwest and northeast of the Himalayas. The roots of this plant are useful for treatment.

Rasulullah SAW once said about this plant, “Use this’ Oud al-Hindi (Indian Wood Costus) because it contains 7 types of cures, it is sniffed by the one having throat trouble, and is put inside the mouth of one suffering from pleurisy “. [Saheeh al-Bukhari (5692)].

In addition, the Messenger (SAW) said: “Cupping (Hijama) and Qust al-Bahri (Sea Incense Costus) are the best of your remedies”. He added, “You should not harm your children by treating tonsillitis by pressing their tonsils, rather use Qust al-Bahri (Sea Incense Costus)”. [Saheeh al-Bukhari (5696)].

With this hadith, and this is a valid hadith, for Muslims there is no doubt about this plant. That is, for Muslims, this does not need scientific evidence anymore because there is already a hadith from the Prophet Muhammad. Because everything that was explained by Rasulullah SAW was proven true. Ok, now we see how this Costus Hindi works in providing medicinal value for him.

How does Costus work?

The roots of the Indian costus plant contain medicinal value. This medication will kill worms or nematodes in the intestines and it will slow down the intestines.

Uses & Effectiveness

How effective is it? So far not many have used this plant in treating diseases. So there is not enough evidence for us to collect and comment on the effectiveness of the plant or root of the costus.

Insufficient Evidence for

Parasitic infection in the intestine. Treatment with this drug according to research shows that costus root can work as well as a drug called “pyrantel pamoate” in terms of reducing the number of worms in children’s stool.

Likewise effective in reducing the number of worm eggs. If the worm eggs can be reduced by consuming costus root oil, this shows that the treatment with Hindi Qust is going well. However, scientifically we still need a lot of evidence to explain this clearly and clearly.

Health Benefits of Costus al-Hindi

Apart from reducing intestinal worms as above, there are several other health benefits of consuming herbs from the Himalayas. However, there is not enough evidence to solidly explain the health benefits. But you can try this herb to treat several types of diseases such as:

  • Overcoming digestive problems
  • Asthma
  • Gas
  • Cough
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Cholera,
  • Dysentery
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Diabetes
  • Relieves menstrual pain
  • Joint pain
  • Kidney problems
  • Problems with the liver
  • Skin rash when applied to the skin
  • Experiencing headaches when applied to the skin
  • And costus health benefits for other health complaints.

To see the effectiveness of treatment using the roots of the costus hindi plant, we still need to collect a lot of evidence.

Side Effects of Indian Costus

In the midst of the many benefits of costus al-Hindi, there are a number of side effects that can occur. When you take costus hindi orally, costus oil is safe for most people if the amount is not large or the same as the amount in the diet. Likewise, the oil from costus root, it is safe to consume as medicine in the right way and the right dose. But what you have to pay attention to is that costus plants contain ristolochic acid. Aristolochic acid is said to damage the kidneys and cause cancer.

Costus products containing aristolochic acid are not safe for consumption. So, if you want to use this drug safely, consult a specialist. The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) statute states that they can confiscate any product that contains Aristolochic Acid. Once confiscated, this product will not be released or will not be licensed so that the authorities can prove that costus oil is free from aristolochic acid-free.
