These are the Benefits of Beetroot for Diabetics

Beetroot is not actually a fruit but a plant root or is called a tuber. This is the same as other tubers that are usually processed into food. There are many nutrients contained in beets and beets are consumed in various ways. Some are cooked in soup, eaten directly, made beet juice, baked or made as a coloring agent in making cakes.

Ok, let’s just see what are the benefits of beets for diabetics and what are the nutrients and content in beets so that they are very beneficial for health.

1. Contains nitrates

Beetroot is rich in nitrates and its function is to improve the body’s cognitive function, especially in diabetics. Nitrates contain chemicals similar to those found in certain foods.

Nitrates have a function to improve blood flow performance and this is good in preventing high blood pressure. So, just consume beets regularly to prevent abnormal blood pressure.

2. Contains betalain and neo betanin

Beetroot has great health benefits too because it contains betalain and neo betanin. Well, the benefits of these two compounds are that they can lower glucose levels in the body. Diabetics experience spikes in glucose because the body does not produce much insulin or because the body’s cells no longer respond to insulin. So, to normalize blood sugar levels we must reduce the glucose content in the blood and one way is to consume beets which are rich in betalain and neo betaine content.

Beetroot is also useful for preventing oxidative stress which is experienced by many diabetics.
