In the practice of yoga there are three main aspects and one of them is Pranayama. In doing this technique there are techniques including one of them is Anulom Vilom. Pranayama has benefits in shaping the body and mind as well as connecting the moment with the breath. The term Pranayama is an extension of prana i.e. breathing. Prana means life force, and ayama means restrain or control. This is a special technique of yoga designed to change the breath for better health and a calm mind. Pranayama is a breathing method consisting of various types and each has its own benefits.

Well, one of the most famous pranayama techniques is ‘Anulom Vilom’.

What is Anulom Vilom?

Anulom vilom in yoga is called the nasal breathing exercise. This is a very important exercise for dealing with health problems related to breathing. Anulom vilom is the modern name for Nadi Shodhana Pranayama used by Swami Kripalu. The Anulom Vilom technique has many benefits and uses for the body.

How to Train Anulom Vilom?

– Sit on the floor with your back straight, sit in the Padmasana or Sukhasana position.

– Place your left hand on your knee, in Chin Mudra – with your palm facing up and your thumb and forefinger touching each other.

– Now place the thumb of the right hand on the right nostril, the index and middle fingers above the eyebrows and the ring finger on the left nostril.

– Close your eyes, close your right nostril and inhale from your left nostril

– Now hold your breath for a few seconds, and close your left nostril and exhale from your right nostril.

– And now inhale in the right nostril, hold and exhale from the left, continue this exercise session for 5 to 10 minutes.

Best Health Benefits of Anulom Vilom Pranayama

1. Clean clogged arteries

Nostril breathing is an excellent form of breathing for heart health and preventing coronary problems. If you train for 120 days, it will help remove 30-40% of clogged arteries. Another benefit is increasing blood flow, preventing problems such as angina, preventing bad cholesterol, pathogenic cholesterol, and triglycerides.

2. Improve respiratory health

Anulom Vilom also includes exercise techniques that help prevent respiratory diseases. When this exercise is done, it means you are expanding your lungs and it allows you to breathe more oxygen, it also improves lung function, regulates breathing, prevents asthma, bronchitis, and pulmonary diseases, etc.

3. Beneficial for mental health

The practice technique known as Anulom vilom is to clean the pranic channels and increase the flow of prana in our body. This will supply pranic energy throughout the body and help maintain overall health. This exercise will balance the two main energy channels, ida and pingala and this can make the brain calm.

5. Good for blood circulation

Anulom vilom exercise also improves blood circulation. When you take a deep breath, your lungs will be filled with oxygen and it will also circulate to your heart and brain. If there is more oxygen in the blood, the blood will flow more smoothly.

6. Lose weight

The health benefits of anulom vilom exercise can also reduce weight. Oxygen that reaches the intestines, it will remove toxins from the intestines and this will reduce your excess weight. Weight loss that occurs due to accumulation of toxins can be solved by practicing pranayama, or because the body’s metabolic rate is not good. This exercise can also increase the body’s metabolism and balance hormone levels.

Yoga practice known as anulom vilom is an exercise that can stabilize sugar and prevent diabetes. Problems like diabetes occur due to disturbances in the body such as body metabolism, where the body stops producing insulin or produces it only in small amounts and this then causes diabetes problems, improves organ function, increases oxygen in the blood.
